The theme of the 2024 Aranya Theater Festival is "Exception and Rules." By listing and reorganizing the ordinary elements of everyday life, we weave together dramatic moments that unfold within the vibrancy of the quotidian, celebrating the greatness of every "ordinary" and marveling at the exceptionality within every "routine."
At the same time, if we free our gaze from the constraints of function, we may uncover another, rarely recognized "truth" of life. Life itself is a theater. In our perception, "exceptions" often emerge suddenly under the gaze of the "routine," while every routine, in its own way, is an exception.
Take a chair, for example. Does it belong to life or to theater? Is it an everyday object or a stage prop? As the setting and perspective shift, so too does the way we perceive objects. And when boots, watering cans, windows, padlocks, funnels, and pipes—these tangible yet unremarkable items—form the entirety of a scene, all they need is a reason, and they become a composition of words, a narrative in themselves.
On the shores of Aranya, together with the theater festival, we have brought forth this exceptional act.
